Orobelle, Duchess of Diamonds, wakes up one morning to find her protector's niece kidnapped, the marketplace's water tower destroyed. The mysterious ransom note demands that she trade herself for the hostage, or risk war on her Duchy.

Refusing to comply, Orobelle hatches a plan to rescue the child, with the aid of the eight heroes who are prophesised to protect her. Through tunnels and gates in space she goes in search of them: each one living in their own universe, oblivious to what is to come.

This project, and its adjoining stories, tells the tale of every person who soon becomes embroiled in this ever-growing plot, as it pulls the very world into jeopardy.
